Buying guide for silk bed linen
This article aims to explain the most important quality criteria to consider when buying silk bed linen. The quality of the raw materials, the density of the fabric and the level of finish will all have an impact on the cost price.
At Maison de la soiewe have decided to limit our offer to the highest quality silk, while keeping our prices very competitive thanks to direct online sales. Our products are made to last and to offer you incomparable comfort.
1- Mulberry silk
Mulberry silk is the result of ancient Chinese know-how and is produced by Bombyx Mori silkworms. To produce their cocoons, silkworms feed exclusively on mulberry leaves.
The larvae of this domesticated butterfly have been selectively bred for generations,
produce a cocoon with a fine but highly resistant thread, regular and naturally white.
It is above all these unrivalled natural qualities that explain silk's enduring popularity over the centuries.
Mulberry silk is entirely different from wild silk, which is weaker, irregular and yellowish in color.
2- The long fibers of A-grade silk
Grade A is the highest quality silk. It involves the selection of good-quality cocoons that unwind with a long, regular thread.
For silk bed linen, this means fewer cut threads. Silk satin is even more luxurious, softer and stronger.
3- Mummes
The momme is a unit that measures the density of silk fabrics. For bed linenmomme varies from 12 to 19.
This is one of the most important selection criteria for silk bed linen, because the thicker the silk satin, the stronger, softer and more visibly luxurious it is.
Our silk is of the highest quality, 19 mommes.
4- Seamless sheets
The price of silk rolls varies greatly according to their width. It's more economical to join two pieces of fabric lengthwise to make a wide sheet.
However, having a seam in the middle of your sheets is unpleasant and unattractive. We only offer seamless sheets.
5- Satin
Satin is a soft, shiny fabric that can be made from any type of yarn. The word "satin" alone usually refers to polyester satin, but you'll also find cotton satin, viscose satin and so on.
Obviously, there is no visual or tactile comparison between these fabrics and natural silk satin. Beware of dishonest websites selling polyester satin as silk satin.
6- Beware of Asian sites
We regularly receive feedback from exasperated customers who have been swindled by foreign websites.
Before buying from a foreign website, remember:
● That prices are shown exclusive of VAT and other taxes.
● VAT and customs duties on the purchase price, including shipping costs, are payable with the possibility of fine or seizure in the event of failure to make prior declaration.
● It is generally impossible or extremely costly to return a product of inferior quality.
